Steve Harvey and T-Mobile

For it’s first SuperBowl 50 ad , T-Mobile tapped celebrity host Steve Harvey to poke fun at rival Verizon’s “Better Matters” commercial with the colorful balls. T-Mobile continued their self-categorization as the “un-carrier” in the ad by using Steve Harvey to claim that Verizon got the data numbers wrong not him. By using Steve Harvey and his unfortunate Miss Universe flub, T-Mobile provided a social hook by creating content was not only timely, but funny was well. T-Mobile is known for being brash and abrasive in their advertising against their competitors and this theme continued by poking fun at the seemingly not-funny Miss Universe incident. T-Mobile was able to engage their consumers through a noteworthy and unique approach.
